The new energetic year of Wood Snake (乙巳, Yi Si) starts on 3rd February 2025. This date also marks the beginning of Li Chun (beginning of Spring) - the first of the 24 solar terms and also Spring Festival. This is the date which determines when the new year’s energies will start influencing the weather and the human health in 2025.
As you may know Chinese New Year is celebrated on 29th January in 2025 according to the Lunar calendar. This is different from the Li Chun date of 3rd February, which is calculated using position of the Sun rather than the Moon. It must be noted that 2025 lunar year will have two Li Chun festivals - one in 2025 and one in 2026 (because lunar new year in 2026 starts after Li Chun). This makes 2025 an auspicious year, which is a welcome relief after extremely inauspicious “double blind” year 2024.
The year of Wood Snake is a Yin year, which would typically suggest deficiency, however the branch of the year is Yin in form but Yang in energy leading to a mix of deficiency and excess energies. Snake years bring Wind and Heat energy, so expect windy weather in the first half of the year (until the end of July / early August) and abnormally hot weather in the second half.
The windy weather in the first half of the year will affect human health by manifesting heaviness, vertigo, tinnitus, weak muscles, and anorexia. The second half of the year will bring abnormally hot weather and people are likely to have conditions of acute dysentery with bloody stools. From Chinese medicine perspective, the treatments should utilise pungent herbals to disperse the wind from the upper body, and salty herbs to purge the heat from the lower body.
This is a general outlook for the year concerning weather patterns and prevailing health issues, that are likely to be noticed by doctors. Your personal forecast would depend on your own strengths and weaknesses and elemental balance - get in touch if you would like to know more.
